We signed Madolyn up for soccer this spring and she was lucky enough to get on her friend/neighbor's team. Her dad called and asked me to be his assistant coach so we were all set. The games were 4 on 4 with no goalies. It was more of a magnet ball game then a soccer match. The group would move up and down the field until eventually the ball would somehow squirt out of the group of kids and someone would go kick a goal. Madolyn was very standoffish the first few games and would play more of a defensive role. She would stand behind the group of kids and if the ball made it out she would kick it. Then with two games to go she woke up one morning and told Dawn that she was going to score a goal. Sure enough, she ended up scoring two goals in that game and one more goal in her last one. We weren't sure where this goal scoring machine was the first 6 or so games, but she came alive in the end. She really enjoyed playing soccer and we think she will want to do it again next year.
Drew and Avery were good little cheerleaders during the games.
Grandma and Grandpa Peterson came to see her score a goal in her last game.
Here is her live action shot.
My assistant coaching duties included keeping our less focused players involved in the game. Much like this little girl who is sitting on the ball after a goal was scored.
