Random Pics from July 2011

We went out on the little fishing boat with the girls and Grandpa one Saturday thinking it would be fun for the girls. Avery fussed most of the time and actually fell asleep for about five minutes in the middle of her fussing. Madolyn had fun catching fish like she always does with Dad, but she is usually good after catching one or two fish and Dad and Grandpa like to go for a lot more fish than that, whether or not they end of getting more; so needless to say it wasn't the most enjoyable fishing trip but we made a good haul.

Avery continues to love dressing up, and being a goofball. She will put headbands on when she is running around playing at home but I still can't get her to keep them on if we go anywhere.

Silly Madolyn having fun.

These next two pics are ones that Madolyn took of herself and me. She likes to take a lot of random pics when she gets her hands on the camera and we always find at least a few surprises.

Fourth of July 2011

Well we actually celebrated the Fourth of July on the second. It was a Saturday so Jordan was off of work and we decided to take the girls swimming at the Lehi Rec. Center. They have a large pool that starts at just a foot or so and gets deeper as you go. The girls love playing in the water at home but because we don't swim in the big public pools very often they were a little clingy at first. Eventually they warmed up, especially Avery. They would both go under water and then pop back up with smiles. We put life jackets on them for part of the time and Avery loved it- we would just let go of her and she would just lay there and float on her back and close her eyes, it was funny to watch. Madolyn didn't really like letting go of us unless she could touch the bottom, but they both loved it overall and we had a good time.

That evening Jordan's family came over for a bbq before heading off to the the Stadium of Fire; so before bedtime we had our own little firework show. Avery didn't know what to think of them at first but liked watching them by the end. She even got brave enough to hold a sparkler. Madolyn loved the fireworks and would squeal and laugh as they went off. It was a fun day for our little family.

Madolyn's First Visit to the Dentist July 7, 2011

After much preparation through library books about the dentist and daily brushing and flossing of teeth, Madolyn had her first cleaning and exam appointment at the dentist. I took her to a dentist I use to work for, Dr. Mark McKell, in Provo.

We started checking out books about the dentist and after reading them a few times Madolyn thought she was a dentist herself and a couple times a day would have Avery or me lay down so she could "check" our teeth. Avery was a very good sport and always let her. She would use her plastic toy utensils and have us open and then tell us our teeth were good. She would also want to lay down and have me check her teeth everyday.

The day of her appointment I think I was more nervous for her than she was for herself. Not that i'm afraid of the dentist by any means but I wasn't sure how she would react. When I was working some kids had no fear and would hop up in the chair and others would scream and flail before they even walked in the operatory. I thought she would do well because she has always let me brush and floss her teeth without a fuss and because she was so excited to go the dentist; everyday for the couple of weeks leading up to her appointment she would ask if we were going to the dentist. I figured that if she didn't want them to work on her I would just hop in the chair and clean them myself. Well she did great! We walked in and they took me back first to have my teeth cleaned and Madolyn headed over the the coloring desk and books. She is always shy when we walk into a new environment so she was a little slow walking to the room with the assistant but once she climbed in the chair she opened and let them polish and clean, put fluoride on and even let Dr. McKell check her teeth without any complaints or resistance, and without me in the room. That's my girl. Even though she got to pick out a toy her favorite part was getting a new tooth brush.

Yellowstone- July 28, 2011

While we were up at the cabin we drove to Yellowstone in hopes of seeing some animals along the way. We spent most of the day in the car and sadly only saw a couple of elk and a coyote, the little buffalo must have been hiding while we were there. We did however get to see the hot pots and good Old Faithful:) We all wore our paint shirts that we had made the day before so we could be identified as one of those families with matching shirts. We actually had quite a few comments on them- good ones that is. It was fun, I think it had been about ten years since I last went.
