Baby Drew decided to join us ten days earlier than expected by coming at 12:26 am on January 21st. He weighed 7lbs 9oz and was 20in long. Dawn and I decided to go on one last date that Friday night so Aunt Kristin came down to watch the girls. Our date was interrupted every 15 minutes or so by contractions so we figured he was coming. We got back from our date around 7:30 and put the girls to bed. Dawn kept having contractions so Aunt Kristin decided to stay the night in case we went in to the hospital. By about 11:00, Dawn's contractions were about 10 minutes apart so she went to take a shower before we headed to the hospital. I knew it was going to be a long night so I threw down some chips and salsa for some sustenance. :)
We arrived at the hospital at 11:43 pm while Dawn was having contractions every two minutes. She was already dialated to almost a seven so we figured it wouldn't be long. By 12:23 am she was ready to push, and by 12:26 am Baby Drew Jordan Peterson was here! Dawn did so well. I am so proud of her. Baby Drew was born with a small hole in his soft pallet in his mouth where his uvula should be. This causes some issues with nursing so it looks like he'll be a bottle fed baby. At six months, he'll go in and they will put him out and sew up the hole and he'll be good to go. If nothing else it will be a conversation starter for him when he grows up..."So, you ever been on a date with a guy with no uvula?"
We are so excited to have him with us. The girls love playing mommy with him by holding and feeding him.

When he cries he really has to work up to it and gets really red. Then he lets out a little cry and looks around.
Madolyn didn't know what to think of him at first. She didn't want to hold him or even touch him. The whole environment and newness of the baby was a little too much to take in all at once. Avery on the other hand was ready to hold and love him right away.

This is the next day, on January 22nd. Madolyn decided she now loves him and wants to hold him all the time. You can also see in this picture Avery's new found love...chapstick. She carries two or three with her at all times and loves to put them in her pockets and then pull them out and put them on every few minutes.

We celebrated Grandma's birthday in the hospital so we could all be together. Grandma asked for some watercolor paint sets for her house so the girls could paint while they visited. Madolyn was so excited for her.
